The ballot box is calling, Owen County, and local election officials have drawn your road map to the polls. With the Nov. 3 General Election fast approaching, the Owen County Clerk’s Office has unveiled a comprehensive slate of early voting opportunities, satellite locations, and absentee options designed to ensure every eligible voice is heard.
For residents wishing to vote early in person, the Owen County Courthouse located at 60 S. Main St. in Spencer will open its doors starting Tuesday, Oct. 6. Voting will continue Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., though voters should note that while voting remains available during these hours, other courthouse offices close for lunch from noon to 1 p.m. Additionally, the courthouse will be closed on Oct. 12 for Columbus Day. Voters must enter via the main northside door and bring a valid government-issued photo ID. To accommodate busy schedules, extended Saturday hours will be offered at the courthouse on Oct. 24 and Oct. 31 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., with the final day of early voting taking place on Monday, Nov. 2, from 8 a.m. to noon.
In addition to courthouse voting, satellite locations will open on specific Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. for in-person voting requiring a valid photo ID. Residents can visit the Freedom Community Center located at 5552 Freedom-Arney Rd. in Freedom on Saturday, Oct. 24, or the Faith Baptist Church located at 11612 State Road 243 in Cloverdale on Saturday, Oct. 31.
Voters who prefer or require alternative methods also have several options. Ballot packets can be mailed to voters who meet specific statutory requirements allowed by Indiana Code and submit a written request. Applications are currently available at indianavoters.in.gov/MVPHome/PrintDocuments, with a mail-in application deadline of Oct. 22 at 11:59 p.m. For voters who qualify under Indiana Code and require direct assistance, a traveling board can bring a ballot packet directly to them upon written request, with applications due by Nov. 2 at noon. Meanwhile, military and overseas voters can find special actions, qualifications, and required forms by visiting the state voter portal online.
The 2026 General Election will officially take place on Tuesday, Nov. 3, from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. On Election Day, voters may cast their ballots at any of the seven local vote center locations across the county.
