Since her sophomore year of high school, Suzannah Couch has been captivated by journalism. A
Brown County native, she spent seven years as a reporter for the Brown County Democrat,
covering the community she’d called home since birth—a role she considered a true honor.
During her time at the Democrat, Suzannah earned multiple first-place awards from the Hoosier
State Press Association, including a 2017 nomination for Story of the Year. The following year,
the Democrat won its first-ever Story of the Year award for an in-depth series Suzannah
spearheaded on the opioid epidemic—reporting extensively on how it affected Brown County
and how the community responded.
A 2013 graduate of Franklin College with a bachelor’s degree in news editorial journalism and a
minor in political science, she began her career at the Democrat in 2014 and later served as
editor. In 2022, she transitioned to a new role as digital marketing and storytelling specialist with
Regional Opportunity Initiatives, expanding her skills into marketing.
In 2023, Suzannah moved to Spencer to be with her boyfriend and quickly fell in love with her
new community. In March 2025, they welcomed a baby girl. With a deep love for local news,
she was thrilled to see The Owen News launch, filling a news gap she had noticed in her new
hometown. Today, she’s proud to serve on both its Board of Directors and Journalism Advisory
Board.
