Rain didn't discourage runners and walkers at the annual Friends of McCormick's Creek 5K on Saturday, April 19 at McCormick's Creek State Park.
There were 325 entrants, which was a new record. The Owen Valley High School Cheer Squad turned out to encourage racers, and McDonalds and Babbs Supermarket provided refreshments. Everyone enjoyed a time of fellowship and fun.
Proceeds from this charitable event fund park improvements, restoration from the tornado and educational programs and events. This race is part of the Mag 7 Race Series, a seven-county series that encourages running and competitive walking through a yearly point system.
Elliot Campbell, age 21 of Bloomington, was the overall male winner in the run division with a time of 18:47. Isabelle Sylvester, age 16 of Spencer, was the first female runner to cross the finish line. Her time was 21:59.
In the walk division, Jeremy Price of Bloomington finished with a time of 37:52 and was the overall male walk winner. Denise Hermann was the overall walk winner for the women with a time of 39:54.
This year's race sponsors were greatly appreciated, as were the many volunteers, park staff, and dedicated racers.
