Patricksburg Elementary School (PES) recently welcomed a crowd of special guests on Friday, Sept. 18 for their Lunch on the Lawn, a tradition that brings students, families, and the school community together for an hour of food and fun.
Parents, grandparents, aunts, and uncles arrived at PES carrying picnic lunches (and plenty of McDonald’s and Wendy’s bags) to enjoy with their children. Families spread out under the shade trees and gathered in the shelter house, taking time to relax and enjoy lunch and recess together.
Following lunch, guests had the opportunity to watch their children enjoy recess on the playground and soccer field. Students also received a special visit from the Patricksburg Community Volunteer Fire Department, which brought a fire truck to the school. Students enjoyed getting an up-close look at the truck and learning more about the important role local firefighters play in their community.
Events like Lunch on the Lawn are about much more than sharing a meal. They provide an opportunity to strengthen the connection between home and school. Building positive relationships with families is an important part of creating a school community where students feel supported and connected.
PES appreciates the tremendous turnout and is grateful to the many family members who took time out of their day to join their children at school.
With plenty of laughter, playground fun, and time spent together, the Lunch on the Lawn served as another reminder that some of the best school days are the ones shared with family and friends.
