Lois Gertrude (Simpson) West, 103

Lois Gertrude (Simpson) West, 103, a longtime resident of Spencer, IN, passed away on Monday, Aug. 17, 2026, in Byron Center, MI. Born on Sept. 1, 1922, in Daviess County, IN, she was the daughter of the late Bert and Ada (Ault) Simpson. On Nov. 26, 1942, she married Ballard West, with whom she built a life centered on family and devotion until his passing.

Lois dedicated much of her career to public and community service, working for many years in the accounting department at the Indiana University Student Health Center in Bloomington. Following her time at IU, she continued her professional life at the Macy’s department store in Bloomington. She was a faithful member of the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Bloomington.

She is survived by her son, Larry West, and his wife, Suzanne, of Alto, MI; two grandsons, Chris West and his wife, Ashley, and Andy West and his wife, Maggie; six great-grandchildren, Norah, Isaac, Joseph, Tucker, Molly, and Jillian; and her brother, Gary Simpson.

In addition to her parents and her beloved husband, Ballard, Lois was preceded in death by her sister, Maxine Henson; and four brothers, Lowell Simpson, Paul Eugene Simpson, Robert Simpson, and Kenny Simpson.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 5, 2026, at the West & Parrish & Pedigo Funeral Home in Spencer. Friends and family may call from 9 a.m. until the time of service on Saturday. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Spencer.
