Betty Jane ‘Jane’ (Vest) McCollum, 83

Betty Jane “Jane” (Vest) McCollum, 83, of Spencer, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Sept. 27, 2026, at Redcrest Hospice House in Bloomington.

Jane was born Jan. 22, 1943, in Freedom, to Harold and Edna (Bales) Vest. A 1961 graduate of Freedom High School, she began a life centered on family, friendship, service, and her community. On May 17, 1963, she married Kenneth “Kenny” McCollum, with whom she shared many treasured years.

Jane worked for many years as manager and partner of Ideal Credit Corporation in Spencer. She was deeply involved in the organizations and community she loved, including the Order of the Eastern Star, Delta Theta Tau Sorority, where she was a devoted member for more than 50 years, and the Freedom Community Center Board. Jane was also a longtime member of Freedom United Methodist Church.

A loyal Indiana University sports fan, Jane followed IU athletics with enthusiasm and pride. Above all, she cherished time spent with her family and friends, creating memories that will remain a lasting source of comfort to those who loved her.

Jane is survived by her children, Kim (Tom) Frazier of Spencer, Mark (Kaylee) McCollum of Brazil, and Lisa (Shane) Bassett of Borden; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and her sister, Marilyn Walters.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Kenny McCollum; her brother, James Vest; and her sister, Sandra Truax.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 2, 2026, at West & Parrish & Pedigo Funeral Home of Walton Funeral Service Inc., 105 N. Montgomery Street in Spencer. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will follow the service at Riverside Cemetery in Spencer.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Ken and Jane McCollum Memorial Fund at the Owen County Community Foundation.
