Owen County motorists had to find new routes on the morning of April 2 as some rural county roads were flooded due to heavy early-morning rains. Central Indiana remained under a flood warning Tuesday, with flood-prone locations like creeks, rivers, streams and other low-lying areas beginning to impact travel in portions of the county, including rural Freedom-Arney Road shown here. A series of overnight storms and continued rainfall had saturated Owen County with nearly two inches of rain by late Tuesday afternoon. A flood warning remained in effect until Sunday morning, April 10. Motorists should never attempt to cross floodwaters. Six inches of moving water has the potential to knock you off your feet, reminds the Federal Emergency Management Agency, and a foot of water can sweep a vehicle—even a large SUV—off of the road.
